Re: bad optispark please help

Oil leakage on the front of the engine and a poor optispark seal. There is a sticky thread at the top of this forum about opti diagnosis, if you need it.

I see you posted this thread, another in the ignition forum and asked the same question on 2 other old threads. Some advice, since you seem new to the forum...It's a much better idea to ask in one place, rather than shotgunning posts all over.

Re: bad optispark please help

I only recommend a Delphi/Delco/GM opti. Cheap, rebuilt ones are a crap shoot and reliability is sketchy. It is a bit of trouble to replace an opti. I'd rather get a unit that has a better record of holding up for a while.

Re: bad optispark please help

If the oil is clogging the optical cam position sensor, it will set a trouble code. Why not scan the PCM for codes before assuming its the Opti?

You need an OBD-II code scanner..... available for as little as $25. After you scan it, look the codes up on Shoebox's LT1 code list - note that the OBD-II codes are on tabs at the bottom of the sheet:

http://shbox.com/1/Dtcs.htm

If you have any codes, we can tell you what you need to do to correct them.

Re: bad optispark please help

I just change the distributor and the cap but still didn't turn on... Only sounds like it want to start but it doesn't. And I check the fuel injectors but they all sprayed gas... So any other thoughts....

Re: bad optispark please help

Do you want help testing things to determine the cause of the problem BEFORE you buy replacement parts, or do you prefer to just spend money on replacement parts and hope you get lucky?

If it's the latter, there's not much we can do to help you.

Re: bad optispark please help

If the Opti wasn't setting a code there was no need to change it. Could have been cleaned.
