bad idle, tried to fix, now need help

alright, the idle has been really bad lately. i replaced plugs thinking it was them and no help. then i suspected burnt plug wires (found 3, replaced all of them) and that didnt help. i checked the IAC (and cleaned it), cleaned the IAC housing , cleaned the MAF, cleaned teh throttle body (covered in black). anything i may be missing that i can try? im pulling my hair out here. i am going to check to make sure all my plugs are good and tight and that i didnt cross any wires but after that i am lost. any suggestions?

check for vacuum leaks...do you still ahve the stock intake elbow. If so make sure the "donkey dong" is shoved up into the elbow properly...other than that i think a faulty EGR vavle can cause an idle stumble...good luck...

Yes EGR's can go wrong without throwing a code, my EGR had 170K miles on it, it didn't throw a code, and it was sticking. I just had it replaced, one of the last things to do I guess...

I had a rough idle, the new EGR has helped tremendously.

A rough, poor idle would be one of the main symptoms of an EGR valve that is stuck open.

Well I'm new to the site and I'm not going to lower myself to skippy's level here but bad mains do cause a rough idle, along with oil pressure issues, among other things. Long shot, yet a possiblity.

I had an idle prob. I pretty much ruled out plugs, wires, opti b/c i just didnt want to think about them . I cleand the tb, bought a new IAC aftert cleaning the old one twice, and put on a new egr. My prob was the crappy stock gasket where the intake manifold meets the head were letting oil get in the cylinders. It made my idle either very low at times or it would get high and then surge. I didnt even expect this to be the problem, i was just doing the IM leak fix since it was leaking really bad (at only 54K).

Poor idle

I have a 96 LT1 in my 36 coupe and I stripped off the EGR, air pump, purge, rear O2's, etc. I sent the computer to be reprogrammed to get rid of this but they did not have the 96 OBDII program. I am still getting a purge solenoid code - could this cuase poor idel and/or running rich?
