Back in the LT1 Scene...

Well after 5 years of no LT1 Camaro in my garage, the time has come again, I just purchased a 1995 Z28 LT1 6speed, fully loaded leather interior. It's like dejavu again, this car is the EXACT same car I owned 5 years ago, same color, configuration, etc. Only difference is this one has leather.

Anyways, I knew right away when I drove it that it needs an Optispark BIG TIME, this thing runs like crap about 3500-4000rpms from 3rd gear on. I ordered an MSD LT1 Pro Billet and some MSD wires while I am at it.

Any tips on installing these, or a tech page? I want to rip the old one out today so tomorrow I can button it back up.

Also what plugs do you guys recommend? My future plans for the car include: 4.10 gears, hooker LT's, Hooker Catback, cat delete, MAF port, air pump delete, LT1 edit, and possible cam. This car is BONE stock as of now, but not for long.

Man do I miss that 6 speed!

That is why when someone on this board tells us they are selling their car, we reply with "you'll be back." Congrats on your purchase and welcome back to the f-body scene.

Its really straight forward, I think i saw a few guides before but I have no idea where the links are (try searching?).

Basically, remove the fans if you want more room. Remove the belt. waterpump, use a pully remover for the pulley. Remove the air pump, remove the opti.
Replace the seals on the opti driveshaft and the waterpump one too. Install it back together and yorue ready to go.

OH drain the coolant first

Wires are straight forward enough. Here's a PDF i made for the OPTi. it says its for a roadmaster but it's the same for a f-body.

Welcome back Sounds like you have a pretty decent plan to start with, but I'd leave that MAF alone. Or de-screen it at the very most. (just tryin to save you some tuning trouble )

May I suggest that you consider adding an electric water pump since you've got it torn apart to replace the opti anyways...that way you'll pick up an additional 7-10rwhp, not to mention eliminate the chance of your OEM pump leaking on and destroying you brand new opti...

That might be a good idea Colin, I will look into that. I am not too worried about getting everything done this month though, as it's not much of a winter driver.

Does anyone recommend any plugs? What did they run stock in these LT1's? AC Delco's?

Yep, they ran Delco platinum plugs in there from the factory. You can't go wrong with another replacement set of the Delcos, or you can try out the NGK TR-55s, which many of us are using as well.

Welcome back.

I run the NGK TR-55's

I have a 94 and a 95 Z.....the 94 is easier to change the opti on. It's straight forward, just make sure you line it up right.

I've always run NGK TR55s (TR6s when I was spraying)
