AutoXRay Problems...Please help ASAP
AutoXRay Problems...Please help ASAP
I have a 95 Camaro, and it is throwing an SES light, so I work at O'Reilly's so I decided to bring home the AutoXRay to see what the code was. My car is OBD-II tho, and when I set the AutoXRay up for a 95, it asks for 8th VIN, then 4th VIN, and as soon as I try to scan it just said the vehicle isn't responding. If I set it up for a 96 GM (OBDII) it will initialize for about 10 seconds and the air pump will kick on (?????) then it will refuse. I tried using 95 (OBDI) and 96 and 97 (OBDII). Any help??? Do I need to disconnect the wire going to the air pump. The program was done by Ed Wright.
You got it Shoebox. I was using the wrong 2 cables...anyways. Now I have a problem to figure out. The code was "Left Oxygen Sensor Lean". The SES light came on when I was sitting at idle for extended period. My car is NOT lean at idle by any means....very rich. 306 cam, stock injectors and heads...What do you guys think? O2 sensor? thanks again for your help!! i really appreciate it
The "O2 sensor lean" code generally sets when the long term fuel correction max's out at 160, and the O2 sensor is still reporting a "lean" (less than 450mV) condition. Often this is a "false" lean condition, caused by:
-misfires on that bank
-exhaust leak before the O2 sensor on that bank
-faulty sensor or wiring on that bank.
-"split BLM's" from incorrect tuning on a beefy cam, or some aftermarket throttle bodies.
You need to use the scanner to look at the long term fuel corrections, over a broad range of operating "Cells"..... that may point you toward the culprit.

thanks for your help injuneer. The scanner that i was using was only a code reader, couldn't really get anything out of it. The car does seem to run better now that that I cleared the code though. What is the best way to get ahold of a scanner? It's not really economical to buy one right now for me. I just want to get this fixed. My car has lost some pissazz. Also, the car has a Holley 58mm TB and the 306 cam so this all makes since.
I have a couple online writeups on scanners and what the data means. The "software" scanners are very useful... FreeScan or TTS DataMaster will work well with your OBD-I car. All you need is a cable (AKM Electronics) and download the software for free (TTS only good for 20 uses without buying a license).
