Autometer Tach only works undr 5K

Autometer Tach only works undr 5K
Hey guys,
What's the deal with this? I install an Autometer tach, tap into the green wire coming from the top of the coil, and the tach only works below 5000rpm? Strange. Once it hits 5k it just flutters there, aimlessly. Anybody had that happen to them or any ideas about what it's about?
My only guess is maybe the power wire and green wire from the tach are kinda close together, so they might interfere with each other.

Uhh, yeah.. meant to say I tapped into the white wire, not the green one (actually it's kinda pinkish.) My mistake. Thanks for the reply though.. anybody else have an idea?
