Take your pick. Electric is easier to put in.

Electrical would be easier, definitely.

Both a mechanical gauge and an electronic gauge will come with a "probe'".... in the case of the mechanical, its a 6-ft capillary tube with a bulb on the end. The tube has to be routed through the fire wall, and the bulb inserted in a convenient opening. With the electronic, the probe is a thermistor that screws into a convenient opening, and connects via a wire to the gauge.... definitely a lot easier to deal with than running the capillary tube.

I have an electronic oil temp sensor screwed into the oil drain plug.

Get the electric version. As stated, they are easier to install. You also don't have to worry about oil leaks inside the car.
