ASAP heat problems?
ASAP heat problems?
well on my car i donno how this possibly happens... but sometimes (not consistantly) my car will fluctuate in heat temperatures.
like today i was about 1/2 mile away from work (car is on for 2 minutes at most) and the gauge says 235*
i turn on the A/C and about 5 seconds later its down to 200*
and i think i got a little speed it went back down to 170 or so... i think this might have been when the thermostat opend up...(i guess the engine heated up faster then the thermostat....
and the thing is... the gauge moves much faster then water can change temperatures.
ok so a week or so ago i was had same thing happened i bought a new gallon of coolant put about 1/2 a drop in till it was full, so it was already full so i opened the bleeder screw.
I let the car turn on w/o the radiator cap on till it got up to 180 or so... i could see steam from the water so i agreed with the gauge.
altho when i first got my car i did this samething the water was violently circulating... this time the water sat still like a glass of water.
can anyone help me to figure out the cause for this gerastic heating... it seems after a while it runs like normal and says just below 210...
my friend says my radiator could be clogged... but it heated up to quick to be in the radator it must be the engine...
and because of the car starting w/o the radator cap im thinking maybe the pump could be bad... but then again when i first got my car it didnt have a thermo in it... now its got a 180 in it brand new 2 months ago.
anyones ideas would be greatly apreciated

Sounds like you have air in the system. When the engine is cold, remove the bleed screw and fill the radiator until the coolant comes out the bleed screw. Then close em up and be sure the overflow resevoir is filled to the correct level. Let the car reach operating temp and slowly open the bleed screw and look for coolant to come out. When it does, close er up.
Another thing you want to do is take the top cover off the radiator and look between the condensor and the radiator. Not long after I got my used Z, I checked and there was one of those plastic grocery bags in there covering about 1/3 of the radiator. There were leaves in there too. Still don't know how they get in there though.
Also look under the front of the engine and see if there is coolant coming out the weep hole in the water pump. This could also be putting air in the system as well.
