If you're doing a complete motor, meaning heads and everything, I'd expect to be AT LEAST $6500 on a budget setup.
Figure on about $3000 for a shortblock once it's said and done. Heads are $1300-1700 for LT1 castings depending on where you go. Cam may or may not be included. There's basically $4700 right there. Then the supporting cast (and price) depends on how good you want to go.
Hope this helps some.

I mean I'd probably never know that they weren't the heads that were originally part of my engine, right. That would save you from having to give out a free engine, correct?
Calaban, that would not be the case. We would not give you a lessor part just to get the engine out the door, even with the guarantee. That is not the way our company works. This guarantee is set in place to insure that the deadlines are met and that customers get there engines on time. The guarantee ensures that the customer will be happy.
Thanks,

"This is not the way our company works." No your right your company would much rather steal parts from their customers. By stealing im going to go ahead and say $4200 worth of items held for months without permission would count. Your company is lucky that I am not yet a lawyer as if I was, your company would have much more then some nasty emails to deal with.
So the theory is take advantage of whoever you can in the name of profit? Last I heard 100k wont put a dent in a quality CNC machine, so how exactly do you plan to have enough to buy an entire shops worth of machines? Also dont you owe 10,000 dollars to your old head porter, perhaps that should be paid if you had enough to drop 100k on machines.
The only reason most of us dont care that much is we simply know that in a few months... we'll say a year, the number you provided will be disconnected as you will be out of business.
Thank you for you time,
Matt

Guy's here's the short and sweet of the James Hogan issue. There are two sides to everything.
1.) We still have James intake. This is due to the fact that we have not recieved the funds from James bank. However, with that being said it does look like Jim was charged by his bank. We just found this out today.
2.) Jim was not ripped off. He has gotten everything that he has PAID for. We have the intake because he disputed his credit card payment, therefore we have not been paid for it. As soon as we are I will happily send it back to him via overnight at my expense and I will pick up the freight to have it sent back to us.
3.) Jim's engine was late, no doubt. We have apologized for this already. He still got a great quality engine and all of the parts he paid for with it. He was not ripped off!
4.) Jim was offered a solution to this problem. I offered to ship him the mainfold via overnight COD certified. This would guarantee him a manifold and us our $1700.00. Jim refused to do this.
5.) In the end I am saddened that it has come to this, as we like our customers to be happy and satisfied when they leave. The point is we have to be paid for products that leave our shop, with out payment we can not ship them. Jim has a right to be fustrated and pissed but it is his bank that is holding up the intake right now. No one from our CC company or his has been very helpful and this has led to some added fustration on both sides. As soon as we have the $1700 Jim's intake will be overnighted to him.
Hope that clears some of the stuff up.
The new engine guarantee keeps the delays from happening and happy customer coming back.
Thanks

All you guys jumping on the "you're not going to exist" bandwagon need to chill. Just because one person is screaming and shouting about his side of things doesn't mean that the company is shoddy, it out to screw people, and it doomed for failure. There's two sides to every story, and instead of just popping in to bash the representative/company itself why not just jump off the bandwagon and let things play out. Jeez, what do you expect when one party doesn't get paid??? Say you walk into a major department store and special order an item. You get charged, and the money gets withdrawn, but the store doesn't get paid. You expect them to hand the merchandise over with a coke and a smile??? Get real, they're going to hold it until they get paid. It's called business, and if they handed everything out without getting paid, they wouldn't be in it.
I for one had absolutely no problems with AP when I made my engine order this spring. I got the motor and all my old parts back in just under 5 weeks time, and everything looking good. Thanks guys!

Has anyone heard the saying, "The squeaky wheel gets the oil"? This would be a good time to follow that. I mean, you may have had one bad deal that fell through. So he spreads the word by any means necessary that he feels he got ripped. That one person can do a whole lot more damage to a company's reputation than the 10,000 happy customers will do good. So I say just oil the wheel and put it behind you. Probably come out better on both sides than if it's dragged out on the internet for months.

In this age currupt business once discovered, ceases to exist.
WorldCom, Enron, Global Crossing, should I continue?
Even on the local scale, and in the Car "tuner" business, I know of examples of the company taking advantage of the wrong person, and the next thing you know... You can buy tickets to Germany as its now a travel agency. That canned message that APE replied with does nothing, he replied with that before my post, and in other threads. I didnt even most of it, if hes not going to spend 5 minutes to come up with a real, honest answer. Perhaps even with a plan of action to solve the problem at hand, then I dont feel it warrants anytime to read it.
Facts are facts, and going on what was said about customer service. A study many years ago, before the internet became huge. Stated that a customer with a decently poor experience would tell 7. However a customer with a good experience would tell only 3. Now with the internet I imagine the negative # to be vastly increased. If I were to put in my profile "Bad experience with xyz" I guarentee you hundreds, maybe even thousands will see it.
The reason I after all this time decided to finally say something, was that when Jim returned from his trip... his intake was still not returned to him. There is absolutely no reason for that. Jim has talked to his CC company, his CC company has talked to APE. In addition, APE has STOLEN from Jim the value of the intake, injectors, and other various labor costs including a nitrous kit. To the tune of aprox. 4200. Now ask yourself this, if it was you, and you were out some 13k for a motor, plus 4200 of your own items, some 7-8 months after you ordered it. YOU WOULDNT GET A LAWYER AND SUIT THE HELL OUT OF THE COMPANY???
Please...
Until APE can reply with 5 minutes of their time, im going to continue ripping apart anything good I hear about them, wherever it is I find it.
Re: AP Engineering - groundbreaking news! Guaranteed engine delivery times!
From what Jim said they told him that his engine was going to ship with in a couple of days. Then a couple weeks later they emailed him and told him they could finally start assembling it. I think that was still 2 months before they ever shipped it out. When they shipped the engine they didn't bother to call the shop to set up the delivery time they just put it on the truck and sent it out. Which just so happened to be the week of the f-body national event. So the shop was closed!
Re: AP Engineering - groundbreaking news! Guaranteed engine delivery times!
So how many other incidents of these issues have happened with this company from this board? This thread kinda has me confused how one guy has influenced everyone to post how the company is so horrible. I'm just trying to see how all this is justified..thats all.
