Anyone using a ProTorque 9.5" non-lockup?
Anyone using a ProTorque 9.5" non-lockup?
I've been building automatic transmissions for 14 years, and I've usually advised against putting a non lock-up converter in a 700/4L60E...But...My 10.5" 3200 ProTorque is only stalling at 1900 RPMs on the footbrake. My best 60 with the new head/cam combo is a miserable 1.77...Without the car spinning!
ProTorque tells me they can increase the stall, but it'll be less efficient on the top end. IOW, I'll lose MPH. I do know this is a fact with most high stall converters. One option is to go with more stall in the 10.5" and lock the converter up in 2 nd gear, which will decrease the efficiency problem, because once it's 1:1 (lock-up) there is no slippage.
My other option is a 9.5" non lock-up. I'm not crazy about this idea, because the car sees alot of street driving. ProTorque tells me that the converter will have more stall, and be more efficient, on the top end, than the 10.5" lock-up.
BTW, I'm trapping 111.9 MPH now with the 10.5", and it's not locking up in the quarter.
Is anyone using a 9.5" ProTorque?
