Anyone try Mobil 1 15W50?

http://www.mobil.com/USA-English/Lub...il1_15W-50.asp

http://www.mobil1.ca/Canada-English/...osity15w50.asp

Mobil 1 15W-50 is factory fill in Ford Mustang Cobra R.
Anyone use this yet?

Opinions?

My engine builder always recommends 10W40 dino oil to me but this sounds tempting.

I've run it with no problems.

Why are you guys running so thick? I'm using 10w30 synthetic with no problems.

Normally I wouldn't go with such a thick oil but I did a 383 stroker and my engine builder recommeded I run 10W40 or 15W40 oil.

And this new 15W50 synthetic just came out.

I wonder if it would take longer to return to the oil pan than a thinner dino oil.

I use 10-30 Mobil 1 in the winter and 15-50 Mobil 1 in the summer on my blown 385. It depends on how you clearanced the motor when it was put together. I don't think you would have any problems with either and SBC's don't have any problems as far as oil draining back to the pan as far as I know.

Absolutely the best oil I have ever run, haven't tried the expensive redline and royal purple stuff though.
I run it year round, awesome oil pressure.
It starts good in the winter too. It must flow well cold because its synthetic. I have a daily driver, so when I drive my car, I drive it very hard, so I think it needs all the protection it can get.
When I run high rpms, or runs some few runs at the track back to back, with thinner oils it seems like the oil pressure goes too far down at idle for my like.
Therefore its mobil 1, 15w50 for me, Vipers, Vettes, Porsches factory brand fill can't be wrong.

I guess I was a little concerned about revving to 6700 rpm and wondering if the oil will be too thick and just sit in the valve covers or if it will find its way back to the pan.

Wow I didn't know so many guys here would use an oil that thick. How many stock bottom end guys use this stuff? Do you guys think I should switch to it?

i put some in my old 96lt1 with 59k miles...i noticed quite a bit more noise during warm up, untill it got hot and more fluid.

that can't be good.

i guess i'll just stick with 10w

I always try to run the thinnest good oil I can...LPE recommended Mobil 1 5w 30 (AMSOIL too)....Its hard for the crank the rev fast when its sitting in thick oil...oil pressure has never been a prob...been running this way for 9 years w/o taking the valve covers off...did a thick/thin comparison a few years ago in small block Chevelle ...you could actually feel the difference...

I use it, but for most people it would not be a good choice. I don't use my car in weather <40-50F, always warm it up thoroughly before driving and have to be very concerned with good "film strength" for bearing protection with my blower + N2O combo. For 99% of the cars out there there will be no benefit and possible problems as well as power loss.

I was ready to go out and buy some when someone told me the thicker oil would keep it from returning back to the pan and it might be a problem since I'm running a stock pan on my 383.
