Anyone running GM847/LE3 head combo?
can you, with any authority, say that an 847 would have yielded lesser results? I'm not trying to start another debate here, but some of you are so quick to jump on the bandwagon without asking if someone is driving the damned thing.
just run the 847 first.....There will always be an advantage to another cam......I think you should run it for a while and it won't be long before you want a solid roller
I hope this thread doesen't turn into another pissing contest like last week

From the sounds of it, either there is nobody running this combo, or nobody has guarantee'd facts of switching cams and/or comparisons of similar combos with those. It just sounds like a bunch of guys that are swinging by the sacks of those that state go custom or go home, with no proof of the differences...
I am talking apples to apples comparisons, not just the gains of the smaller cams to custom, since I thought the 847 was one of the biggest off the shelf cam...
Back on topic.
Frank, your predicted goals appear to be in line with all I have read on similar setups. If money is there, I would also suggest jumping up to a bigger tire on spray compaired to motor...

All in all, the 847 would be fine. It's cheaper than a custom grind and it MAY do better on the bottle because of the more lsa. You wouldn't be disappointed by any means. If you buy a custom grind (with similar specs) from someone that knows what they are doing, you should indefinitely see an improvement through out the entire rpm range. I'd put my similar, but smaller, sized cam up against the 847 any day of the week.

Nice thing is, I HAVE driven a GM847 equipped 355. Helped a buddy put it together. Runs awesome, still streetable, sounds incredible through duals (which is probably what you would want if you went that far anyway IMO)
The custom will be right on, but the GM847 is an awesome cam for the money as far as off the shelf cams go. There are bigger ones, but unless I was running a 383 or bigger, I wouldnt consider a 242/248 dur cam unless it was a race only app. And the so called 'customs' that you can get off the shelf... like the combination motorsports cams... well let's just say I didnt like those. Sound good and produce the numbers, but the powerband on the way up to peak HP/TQ was very peaky and I didnt like it, nothing like the GM847. Next 'custom' I get will be a one-off true custom cam.
Your call. In all honesty, you will probably be plenty happy either way. If you have the cash or lack the springs and such, I say go custom. If not, the 847 will work pretty well!
