Anyone from Minnesota want to help with header install?

Ok guys. I will be doing a header install ths spring. First of all I am from northern Minnesota just north of Duluth. What I am wondering is if any of you with experience would help out with the install. I have no idea how to install headers, but i am working with a buddy who works on cars a far amount of time but is no genious on LT1's. Would anyone want to help out putting on some jet-hot longtubes that are near where I am?

Yeah, IM not asking anyone to do it for me, just help out "supervising" is thats how they want it to make the process go quicker since they have done the install before. I just want it to go quick. Don't want to spend 12 hours installing them....

Dont worry you wont spend 12 hours.. more like 16 HAHA just kidding, if I lived closer Id help too. If I did long tubes again, id just jack the motor up and drop the K member. After trying for hours and hours and getting nothing but more and more pissed we desided to drop the k-member a little bit. Let me tell you, if I known how easy it was to do I would have done it from the start and probably had the job done in about 4hrs, no joke! There is 6 bolts in it, piece of cake! Pull the motor mout bolts, jack the motor up.. Drop the Kmember and they will slide right in. No kidding, probably take about 2hrs to get them in TOPS! Getting them bolted to the heads probably another 2hrs because they arent fun getting to!

I just installed a set of Hooker Long Tubes a week ago, so this stuff is still pretty fresh in my mind.

I had never done a header install, and the guy helping me had never worked on an LT1 before as far as I know.

We took our time and managed just fine.

I did NOT have to jack either side of the motor up though, and I posted about that this morning. It might help you...

I would try to help, but you're a ways away from me. And I honestly never want to go through that mess again. Putting headers on my Z was by far the worst experience I've ever had with a car.

Where are you from Black Z28? So the easist way to put headers on I take it is to pull the motor mounts out, jack up the engine, and drop the K member?

My first LT header install was all by myself. It's not hard to pull off, give it a shot!

But now that I've done it, it seems so easy and there are probably a bunch of shortcuts I could do.

I did mine myself the first time also. It gives you a chance to get familiar with you car. Just be prepared to run into minor setbacks along the way. A few unexpected things I had to deal with included snapping the post off of the starter (it was corroded and broke when I tried removing the bolt), snapping a bolt off removing the exhaust manifolds (it was the back one that isn't used on the headers ) and having to replace the motor mounts when the drivers side header was aimed up towards the tranny crossmember.

Thankfully this car isn't my daily driver. I was able to work on it a couple of hours each night and took my time.
