Re: Anyone melt thier converter???

Not from a tune but from an exhaust leak. Happened on my 99 Z71. Cost too much to replace both cats cause they are connected together so I gutted them and put on sims.

Re: Anyone melt thier converter???

Too much fuel will cause them to overheat and either plug up or break up. I completely blew the guts out of my passenger side cat once. Initially I attributed it to excess fueling from the blower setup. But I also discovered a bit later that the check valve for the A.I.R. fitting on that manifold was far more restrictive than the drivers side.

I suspect that many premature cat failures are the result of more than one factor IMO.
