Anyone make an aluminum Block LT1/LT4?
I am just wondering if anyone makes an alum 4 bolt main LT1/LT4 block? I figure it would be good for applications such as road racing and possibly drag racing for better front/rear weight distribution. I understand that it wouldn't be as strong as a cast iron block, what would be some problems w/alum over cast iron?
No one does and no one will. The LTx is a good motor, but kind of an evolutionary "dead end". If you want an aluminum engine in your 4th gen, get an LS1 car (or swap in the motor). If you have a lot of $$$ and are building something really exotic, you can get a Gen I SBC in aluminum. It's possible to adapt LTx heads and intake to a Gen I, but it wouldn't be worth it. So you are talking about a completely new setup, including an ECU (if it were to be injected) for all practical purposes.
The cast iron LT1 block is only ~100lb heavier than the LS1 aluminum block anyway.
