Anyone here use the SBBC electric Vacuum pump ?

I installed this pump on my car but havent turned it on yet. I want to use it to pull crankcase vacuum. Someone one here said they used it and I wondered if anyone has experience using it.

my questions are

#1 can you leave it running all the time ??
#2 does it actually pull enough vacuum to provide 10 inches of vacuum at full throttle?
#3if it does, would I need to use a vacuum relief valve ?

thanks

I think you got us all corn-fused. What do you want to do with the pump? What they are made for is to make vacumm for things like AC controls and Power brakes when you dont have a vacumm sourse or you have a low engine vacumm due to radical cam or a blower / turbo.

Do you mean the electric pump from the LT5? Do you plan to use it to purge the crankcase?

Don't know about the electric, but I could probably get you some info on this belt driven setup:

That electric pump is made to pull accessory vacume period. Serously doubt if i can pull a crank case vac. Not the size of the line on the belt drive unit, which btw is made to do pull on the crankcase. You pump is for air only i would almost bet 1 shiney penny you try to pull crankcase vacume with it an it dont last to long due to oil pollution. It is a very simple diaphram pump.

well,we have about 6 months on that vacuum pump, doesnt pull a huge amount, but pulls about 4-5" of vacuum, just gotta plumb catch cans before the pump so you dont wash it with oil.

Re: Anyone here use the SBBC electric Vacuum pump ?

well i have it all hooked up but hadnt made hte decision to hook it up as a crankcase system or to provide vacuum to my brakes and A/C, my only concern is what if I hit hte brakes, does hte pump take a moment to power up and provide vacuum to the booster? and what if the fuse blows or something ? I wont have brakes !!! Im afraid to use it.

Fred I would like more info on a vane belt driven pump, I took offhte stock AIR pump and it looks liek a great place to mount a belt driven pump. any pictures of someone with this done ?

Thanks,
Taz

In your kit you should have a check valve and rebulator. Basically the brake booster becomes the tank to stor extra vacumm. If done correctly the pump will only run when the vacumm fallls below a certain point. It was not intended to run all the time. All the time for too long anyway

are there any links that show how to install vacuum cannisters or pumps for power braking?

ah that makes sense, everything is wired jsut as the instructions stated, I just have to hook up the 12 volt power to it and plumb the vacuum line to the brake booster. Its already actually plumbed, jsut have to hook it up and plug up the hole on the intake manifold. only thing left to do is figure out how to hook the A/C vacuum line up into the pump as well. needto think about that one a bit.

How about using the stock air pump to pull crankcase vacuum? Is this possible with a catch can inline? Would it work?

I have thought about that before the only thing that concers me other than a catch can to get the oil out of the air is that the pump is not rated for 100% duty cycle (run all the time). BUT there has got to be a ton out there free or almost free. Shoot i threw one away a month or so ago.

The stock air pump hardly pulls 2 inches of vacuum. its worthless.
