Anyone have the zz-x cam?

I'm about to start building a motor for my trans am. I was thinking about going with the ZZ-X cam from TPIS. Just wondering if anyone is using this cam. What kind of setup do you have and what kind of HP is it making?

I know of a 383, and a 402 with it. The 383, no idea on power. The 402 made 570/600 on the engine dyno, but keep in mind that was one hell of a motor.

Re: Anyone have the zz-x cam?

Most smallblock heads are weak on the exhaust flow hence the almost universal intake/exhaust duration split, that cam may work well but for it to be ideal the heads will have to flow just right, in most cases you will be better off with more exhaust duration than intake. Besides that TPIS last I checked asked a rediculous price for cams and you could easily get a custom grind of similar or better specs for less money. If using stock heads the single pattern will be less than wonderful and if using ported heads and looking to make serious power talk to the porter about a recommendation. Also I see little chance of that passing the missfire test in OBD2.

i thought the lift was .558/.558 ??? and yes, they are outrageous with their pricing - somewhere around $400 i think. wasn't planning on using stock heads, wanted to go with AFR's, but i may have to just get mine ported. so this would be too much for the stock heads?

That 383 that TQdrivenWS6 was talking about made 420 at the wheels. I believe it has CNC'ed track 1's for heads. He was getting some really bad valve float though, so he could only take it up to about 6200, and it was built to rev to around 7k.
