anyone have a how to on pullin the motor out of the car?

looking to do quite a bit of work to the car in general, and was curious how easy it is to pull the LT1 out of our cars. Figure while its out, I will fix the intake manifold leak, put on some new RR's, maybe a mild cam and some other things. I did a search and couldnt come up with anything. Also, with the engine coming out, would it be easier to throw long tubes on the car and try to slide it back in or would that just not work? thanks

i dont have a how to do but the easiest way is to drop it.. Unbolt the spring assembly from the top of the fenders, take off the motor mounts, disconnect from the tranny and drop it.

All that stuff u are talking about u can leave the motor in the car..

Long tubes arent hard to put in at all.. The drivers side.. u need to remove the steering arm to get it in (3 bolts)

Passenger side- U can point the header straight up to get it in.. but if the car isnt jacked up high enough u cant point the headers straight up so u just unbolt the motor mount on that side and jack it up 2 or 3 inchs and thats it.. and the starter has to be taken off too...

intake manifold takes about 2 hours to get off by yourself.

yeah like he said, i used ken page and it took about 2 hours by myself, also get new plugs, wire's and headers cause you'll pull all them anyway if going from the bottom.

What exactly do you want to pull the motor for? If you aren't going to have any machine work done to it, most major repairs can be done with the motor left in the car.

first off thanks for the info...the reason behind this is to just maybe make everything easier to work on because I will prob be going with a set of heads and a cam, as well as other things. Just thought if there wasn't too much involved in getting the motor out then I would do that and then have everything right there to be easier to work on. I think that after pulling the motor, doing the mods I want to did will not be as big of a hassle vs having the motor in there. Thanks again.

A heads and cam job is easy to do with the motor in the car. Don't waste your time pulling the motor for that. Once you get the radiator, fans and condensor out of the car, you'll be amazed with how much room you'll have to work with.

You can go out the top with the motor with the intake off fairly easy. I have just recently pulled two different LT1's, one out the top and one out the bottom. Actually I spent about the same amount of time on both of them, but I had a lift when I went out the bottom so it made it a little easier. In my opinion, if you have a lift to work on or if you can get the car way up to clear the motor, go through the bottom. If you just have an engine hoist go out the top.

heh ok you convinced me to leave the motor in the car. now, I just gotta decide what parts would be nice. I know it has been discussed a million times with the heads/cam and long tubes etc so I wont waste anyones time and will do some of my own research so I can ask more specific questions. Thanks for the help guys

By far the best way to do it. I've done about six through the top though.
