Anyone have Bilstein shocks with stock springs?

How's the ride with the Bilsteins and stock springs? Is it too rough? What's your comment on ride with the Bilsteins?

I don't want the ride to be chattering my teeth. I can handle a little stiffer shocks than stock.

Thanks,
Dan

I don't see why they wouldn't work fine with stock springs. Shocks don't change the stiffness as in spring rate, but the control rate of compression and rebound.

They work fine for me. Every single suspension upgrade (shock, trailing arms, panhard rod, swaybar bushings, tires) I've added has made the car a little stiffer and a little rougher on the highway. Haven't had any kidney failures yet, but smoothness does not come close to my Tahoe's autoride, ofcourse neither does the Tahoe's handling come close to doing what my Camaro will. The only reason I've never changed the springs that the aftermarkets a invariably shorter by 1" or more in height and while it looks cool lowered, busting the front nose of the car on a curb does not.

My car rides a little better on decent roads, but much worse on bad roads. Handling is greatly improved, however.

Nothing is for free.

Thanks guys. I don't have too many REALLY bad roads where I'm at, so I'm pretty comfortable getting the Bilsteins.

Thanks again.

Cool

My SLP valved ones work fine with stock springs. Ride is much less rougher than with Koni DA's that came with car.

I've got them on stock springs. The ride is rough on bad roads. On normal roads, not much difference than stock. Handling was monumentally improved!! I have the HD's. If you buy them, I think truckperformance.com was the cheapest last time I checked. I as well skipped out on the lowering springs due to not wanting to ruin my paint or undercarriage from hitting stuff. Replace your sway bar bushings with energy suspension polyurethane ones and it will take the slack out of you steering and make it more responsive. Hope that helps. -Michael

Yeah, that helps. Thanks. Actually I planned to swap out the entire sway bar with a 35mm Suspension Techniques bar, which includes polyurethane bushings.
