Anyone ever have an A4 chatter in reverse?

I just got this car and at first i thought it might be the auburn chattering"the previous owner just did a fluid change and used synthetic fluid without friction modifier".
so i refilled the rear with GL5 and used GM friction modifier.I gave it a few days to get worked in but it still does it..
The more i have it happen the more i think it's the tranny.
When i put it in reverse and start moving back you can feel it.almost like the brakes are dragging, but you can give it gas and it just acts like the tranny is slipping.Like it has a huge stall in it..
Forward gears all act and work fine,no slipping.shifts are firm..

The tranny does have alot of miles on it.the car has 130K and as far as i know the tranny is original..

Just confusing me because i have never had one do this in reverse..I know wear is an issue cause of the miles, but why only reverse??

Thanks
Steve

In the winter, my car kinda got stuck in some snow in my driveway.

I put it in reverse and eased on the throttle while my wife pushed the front of the car and I head what sounded like a chatter as well.

I've never heard it since...

I did! My rear gave way about 250 miles later.

I did, but my rear end was fine. It was my tranny that took a dive. Hope you have better luck ... rebuilding those things is expensive... that's why I went 6 speed
