Anyone else tired of the GM847?

I have had this cam for maybe 4k miles. It is just entirely too much cam for the car. It seems like the car is just doing all it can to drive below 3k rpm. It feels like I almost have a funny miss or something. I think its just the overlap of the cam.

I have a CC306, and it's just slightly smaller than an 847, maybe I have a better tune? That helped me soooooo much, Mail order tune from MadZ28.com(thx Ion ) perhaps you have a bad injector? just one will make it run like crap.

I love mine, Theres some bugs that ion has to work out for me but if i didn't hear the lope i wouldn't even know the car had a cam. It's very tame in my M6

*EDIT* just looked at your mod page.. I would look for something thats not working correctly.. you have ported heads and a 355.

Re: Anyone else tired of the GM847?

It doesnt run like crap by any means. It just is a large cam. It runs with the fbods around here and keeps up with them slowbras. So I cant really complain about the performance. I just think im too picky as every one has already told me. I want my cake and eat it too.

I want the performance of a supercharger in a NA car. I know my expectations are just too high. I know some 4.10's would really wake the car up, but when I put the 150 shot on down the road the car would be hell to drive.

I didn't know you were on stock gears.. the 4.10's will defently help.. i had a hell of time trying to drive my car at the lower speeds with 3.42's the cam surge and bucking all over the place was insane.. when i switched to the 4.10's it made life and cruisng alot easier.

Hrmm.... I have a 9" sitting in storage with some 4.11's and a detriot locker. Too bad im just too lazy to install the damn thing.

I guess I will look into some gears and see how that changes the car.

How is your guys exhaust on the inside of the car? Do you get that annoying resonence {sp}? It seems as though my 3" over the axle likes to resonate against the axle from time to time and really drives me bug nuts!

do you really think a modified car is right for you grandma?
Seriously, you need to do a lot of research before modding I guess, because, as you hvae been told, you're expectations are a little high. I have the Hot Cam, Hookers LTs, and a Mufflex 3"-4" ORY and 4" single. It's a PITA to drive, loud as hell, and I wouldn't change it for anything! It could not be more of a polar opposite from my LS1 car, and for that reason alone it's great! Maybe oyu should get a Vett and be done with it!

You want a powerful car, running like stock. You should go with blower..

Re: Anyone else tired of the GM847?

This is exactly why I feel more people should use smaller cams for the first swap. A milder cam can still offer signifigant power over stock but without as many "bad manner" so even if you want more you still enjoy the car and at worst make plans to swap in something bigger. I have seen too many guys get fed up with overcammed cars and end up letting them rot in a garage or sell them.

I am not saying big cams are bad just that I think people need a reference point before going to them. When I put the ZZ3 cam in my Caprice it was the first car I ever drove with a non-stock cam. Looking back I could have tolerated something a little bigger even given the use the car saw then(20K plus a year all weather driver), now that that car is more toy I am swapping the heads and cam for something a little more aggressive(little bigger than the 846) if this is still too mild I will just swap it again down the road. I am a gearhead and will always find something to wrench on so I don't expect to leave one cam in forever.

Re: Anyone else tired of the GM847?

Like I said I want my cake and eat it too. I am glad with the HP it puts down, and swapping to something smaller would just ruin the seat of the pants feel for me. If anything the car seems slow. I need some spray. I have a feeling my next mod is going to be an 03 cobra. LOL!

Re: Anyone else tired of the GM847?

That is the thing we get accustomed to the power we have. I had a low 13 second 4100lbs without me daily driver I could tow with or drive across the country and have done so with 4 PEOPLE and luggage. You would think I would be happy but no today the engine and tranny came out., for the next round of mods.

Swapping the 9" in would be way easier than a gear swap if thats what you're thinking. I think the gears are your #1 problem too.
