Anybody running LT-4 conversion?
Anybody running LT-4 conversion?
thinkin about doing the gm performance parts lt4 conversion to my 94 z.
what I want to know, is what kind of numbers people are getting with this set up, and if it is even feasible for the rest of the car (ie rear end, tranny, STOCK bottom end) to handle the claimed 425hp this setup makes.
also, can this kit be installed with no other mods to the motor, and will a stock 94 motor accept the kit?
also, do you think the 2g price tag is worth it? I want to stay away from forced induction for now, and think that this is probably the best setup for now considering it's completely factory
gimme some input

Re: Anybody running LT-4 conversion?
Its a waste of money and doesnt make the claimed power. Go to www.eportworks.com or www.advancedinduction.com they have some awsome heads/cam pakages.
Re: Anybody running LT-4 conversion?
IMO, for $2k u can get a much better heads and cam package with pretty much everything u would need and u would be able to get more power from it. Sure the LT4 conversion kit is simple and includes all the stuff u would need. The stock bottom end will be fine with the kit. But I have also heard that the claimed 425 hp was with a VERY expensive tuning package that was designed to make the max power out of it. I dont know this for sure, maybe someone else who has heard this can chime in. Dont get me wrong, its a nice package and can give u good gains, but your money can just be put to use better buying a custom heads/cam package. Peace, Dustin.
Re: Anybody running LT-4 conversion?
I have it. I wouldn't call it a waste of money. I like it. It can be installed with no other mods, but it won't make the power unless you install longtubes and a good CAI. When I installed mine I had SLP shorties and the stock Y-pipe and it dynoed 317 rwhp. I got my LT's and made 336.
And yes the stock bottom end can handle it.

Re: Anybody running LT-4 conversion?
Consider this under the same test conditions your stock engine would make probably over 360hp.
You are going to want more gear before a cam and real tuning not hypercrap that isn't even good on a stock engine much less a modded one. You want headers too, you already have an intake so that is taken care of.
I did a milder cam, then stall then gears, then headers and I am saying I did it in about as bad an order as I possibly could have do everything else before looking at heads and cam you will end up much happier.

Re: Anybody running LT-4 conversion?
the thing being is that I don't want to destroy the drivability of it with super low gears. The car is basically a weekend warrior, but does make the occasional 200+ mile trip to laconia new hampshire. I really just want to keep the car stock as possible with the exception of heads and a cam. Basically, i want the car to be able to give ls-1 guys a real good wtf?!?
i want to stay as close to stock as possible, but at the same time ensure the entire car is durable, if that is even possible.

Re: Anybody running LT-4 conversion?
For that amount of money I would just get the HOT cam kit, some headers, have your LT1 heads ported, 30lb injectors and get a tune.
This should give you more HP (than the entire conversion kit) for the same amount of money (or less)
Driveability should be just fine.

Trust me I know about maintaining drivability my LT1 powered toy is a Caprice that recently towed a boat on a 250mile each way weekend trip, mild cam 2800 stall and 3.42s, yesterday I drove it 2.5 hours each way to the dragstrip ran 13.2 and drove home averaging 23mpg on the trip.

Look into the le1 setup it should make more power than the lt4 conversion and i think it costs 1200 bucks or so. Then add stuff like 1.6 rrs, pushrods, gaskets, timing chain ect. and you still below the price of the lt4 but you have more power.
And i sorry but 2k + for 336 rwhp is a waste imo.
