Was wondering if running a offroad Y pipe with no cats would be even close to legal and can i get away with it?

I know i have to pass emissions tests and i'm not sure if i could pass without cats, but still have AIR and EGR working.

So much cheaper to upgrade y pipe and headers without worrying about emissions crap. I'm just gonna save some money if i can. Oh yeah, and this is a daily driven all weather car.

Do i have a chance with getting away with this or should i just not try?? Thanks

 

i live in ohio, and i have long tubes with no emissions, i have 3" side exit exhaust but dynomax bullet mufflers, and no cats, i removed my EGR and AIR. def not street legal but i dont min'd. the cops here haven't done anything and i've been bulled over 2 times for other reasons, no remarks about the exhaust. Ohio doesn't have emission testing, you should be able to do whatever you want to your car.

 

Certain counties in ohio do have emmissions testing. I know that Summit county does and I'm pretty sure Cuyahoga county does also.

When I got e-check a couple years back, they had a mirror attached to a pole that they put under my car to check for a cat.

I'm pretty sure you would fail the visual inspection if you removed your cats.

If however, you are getting 'collector' plates for your car, it exempts you from e-check.

Thanks for the replies guys. I live in cuyahoga and i need it echecked. Never had them look for cats, but i didn't think i would pass emissions without the cats.

 

Where do you go that they don't check for a cat? Mine gets checked every time. They use a mirror. I live in Cuyahoga too.

 

I go to the one between columbia rd and clague rd. sparry rd i believe. I've only had the TA checked once when i got it. I pulled up and i didn't see the guy use the mirror. He did it so quick even if he had a mirror he wouldn't have actually checked for anything. Probably just a one time thing and the guy was tired so just going throught the motions. My car was stock so i'm sure he could hear that.

I'm sure they will check next time i get it done.
