I'm not sure if it the same on the pontiac, but, I used the fuse box inside the car (open drivers door, on side of dash) and the is a few extra lugs u can use a spade terminal on. I think there is some that are switched and some that are batt. I hooked my auto-meter quick lite up there with no probs at all. I used the ign. terminal, lite comes on when u turn on the key for a sec. , kinda cool looking

The tach is inside the car, right? Why go under the hood when there is power at the fuse panel in the dash?

Well I used speaker wire to wire it and since there are two wires together I just ran them both into the engine bay not really thinking that it would be inside the cabin (somebody in another post told me to grab anything from the underhood fuse box.

Is there anything I can tap into or do I have to take the whole wire back into the car and then separate it? I would rather just tap under the hood the wire is sitting there, stripped, waiting for a connection.

Ok, well that changes things a little.

I would tap off the IGNITION (fuse 11), since that is the one that powers the coil and coil module (would seem to be right for tach power ). It's pink. Most or all of the pink wires are only hot with the key ON.

Thanks shoebox!!!! That's exactly the one I was going to tap anyway =) So I have the fuse box off and I have separated the pink wire going into the ignition fuse, so I can just tap it right there under the fuse box?

It kind of confuses me that there is only one wire going into the fuse. Shouldn't there be one going in and one going out? I know I'm missing something stupid.

I would have to look, but there may be a bus where the fuse gets power, therefore you might not see a wire going directly to it. It has to get power from somehwere, though.

The pink should do it. Check it with a meter beforehand if you want to be certain.
