any lt1 guys with 383s, got a few questions??

alright kind of new to this, but i just purchased a 383 kit and found out its for a two piece rear main instead of a one piece..so i bought the adapter that will still allow me to use it..

now as far as the block work to get it to all work how much was the approx. cost for the bore, and to clear for the rods and stuff??

any other things ya'll had to change other than the flywheel, and harmonic balancer? thats the only things i've come across so far if anyone knows of anything else that i haven't mentioned, please enlighten me, thanks alot

I am picking up my second LT1 stroker 383...well 388 c.i. to be exact next week. As far as I know, the bore and relief at the bottom of the bore need to be machined to acomodate for the larger stroke and pistons. You should probably call an engine shop that deals with LT1 strokers specifically.

I spent $1800 on just machine work. I had the crank's counter weights cut down a bit, so I didn't have to clearance the block as much, I did the clearancing my self so I don't know how much it would have cost. I got a SFI TCI flexplate and a ATI super damper for added protection. The clearancing was actaully very easy to do, it took me a long time becasue I was being very careful.

Make absolutely certain that you get someone who has installed the adapter to 1 piece block before. It is a huge pain if that seal leaks. The engine will have to come out. I hope you bought a good one like the GM performance one or a Moroso and not the cheap 30 dollar ones on EBAY. They are improperly machined rejects that someone is selling to make money. Use or make the proper alignment tool to install the seal.

wow....1800 is expensive...my total was under 1200 with everything (minus rotating assy...) including balancing, clearancing, porting heads (hand job), porting intake, and assembling motor.

i gave him a 350 short block and he gave me a 383 short block back...1265 total and he purchased an electric waterpump and installed that too.

You dont have to change your flywheel or harmonic balancer,if you get it internally balanced they will just remove the weight from the flywheel.
