another tc question

a couple tranny shops around here didnt want to put a tc in my car w/o doing a whole rebuild on the tranny. I think theyre just trying to screw me. Is adding a tc to the stock tranny gonna shorten the life of it? Does the computer need to be reprogrammed for it on a 93?

Sounds like they just want more money. If your tranny is fine they don't need to rebuild it for a stall. All they have to do is drop the tranny and bolt it on.

A good tranny cooler should help with the higher temps that a TC will create, around $60. The computer doesn't even control your trans, don't worry about that. It's actually a good thing, 94-95 cars have a computer problem with high stalls.

ok thx. I dont really want to do this myself b/c i dont know much about the tranny so I wanted this done by a shop but lot's of places just seem to want to try to make more money off me. They want way too much for rebuild's too. Glad I dont need it or I'd be in a real problem!

I would think that if the tranny is fine then the stall won,t hurt.
I do recommend a good tranny cooler and maybe a deep pan as well, I did all this with my new tranny cause I want it to last awhile.

I was definitely gonna get the tranny cooler. I dont really know about the deep pan b/c I rarely race the car but i guess it cant hurt and it's not that much more money so i should just do it right once.

All the shops around me (peoria, IL) want 300 just to install a TC, the few that will do it. Most of them don't like the idea of bringing them a vig for them to install-i guess they want to sell me their shelf special 2800 tc. I've heard of ppl getting this done for 150 and was willing to pay 200 or even 250 but 300 from some grease monkey for a 150 job is unacceptable. I think I'm gonna do it myself. My friend and I did the cam and I doubt it's harder than that was. Anyone done this themselves???

Nope, not yet. I plan to though, I've done everything so far that isn't welded on. I plan on following this guide.

Its definately easier than a cam install.
A tranny jack is helpful but not required.
Gettin tranny lines off was hardest part for me.
And get your extensions for your ratchet out you will need it long, I am guessing mine was like 2 feet, like 4 different length extensions all put together.
