Another opti question

I was on my way to work today when I noticed that my oil pressure was alittle lower than normal, not super low, but about 10 lbs less. I checked to see if any codes were wrong, and I got the dreaded code 16 I have been meaning to change my opti for a few months now so that isn't the problem. Could the oil pressure drop and the bad opti be related at all? I just checked the other day for codes and there was nothing tripped. Also I know my opti has been alittle "off" but its been running fine. I know they can go at anytime, but anyone have an idea about how long I have, since it will be about a week before I can get to change it and I need to be able to get to work...lol thanks!!!

Re: Another opti question

It isn't unusual to see DTC 16 as a "stored" code. If it was an "active" code, the engine would not be running, since the PCM shuts down the fuel system on loss of low resolution pulse. Clear the code and see how quickly it comes back. It could be due to corrosion on the harness connectors, so that is worth checking, and a lot cheaper/easier than replacing the entire Opti.

The only remote connection between oil pressure and the optical sensor in the Opti would be a leaking seal dumping oil into the Opti, but I doubt you would see a significant change in oil pressure due to a small seal leak.

Re: Another opti question

Well I reset it and i ran the car a bit, and the code hasn't tripped again yet. So i'm taking that is good news for now. Is there any other reason besides my pump getting weak the the oil pressure dropped like that?
