Yeah that's what I'm scared. I would hate to have stuff melt on me and it would be such a pita to fix. That's why I'm thinking white lighting coating... It's so damn expensive though... and after its all said and done, I have spent enough to buy a pair of longtunes

even if you get mid or long tube headers, it is better to have those ceramic coated by a place like Jet Hot. There are other companies doing "coatings" like White Lighting but I have only used Jet Hot myself.

Some shorty type header tubes bend up and sometimes over so that puts the tubes close to hood and other under hood engine components made of plastic as the short header needs to meet the CATS in their stock position

In the end if you find a shorty or even SLP's for around $400 + $250-$300 for coating you likely can get long tubes for the same $

I always hear about mix emotions on jet hot coating. They seem to have people say that the coating seems to go bad after 3 or 4 years. And they also see spots of rust begin to appear after a year or even sooner. Is that the case for you?

But when one spends a little more cash on white lightning, they would probably never have a problem again and would last the life of the car? How expensive would it be to cost to coat in white lightning. I have heard 300 per header???? that seems way too expensive that can't be true?

not saying Jet Hot is the best. Just the only one I have used on 3 different cars/headers

FWIW pic of my shorty Edelbrocks. 17 years old and 100k mi. Not a shinny as new but they dull anyway. YMMV

Re: Another lt1 shorty header discussion. White lightning?

I went with MAC mid-lengths and Jet coating. I coupled them to an ORP and Borla cat-back. They came with O2 bungs and I run stock O2 sensors. I really like the setup and the sound but the sound is of course subjective. MAC mid-lengths also seem to be getting hard to find.

Long tube is the conventional wisdom. I had my reasons for going mid-length because of other mods I thought I was going to do but didn't. When I have to replace these I'll probably go with Long tube because of price and availability.

I've had my Mac mid-length Jet-hot coated headers on my car for almost 10 years and the coating (and headers) are in good shape though I do have a little bit of rusting at the head and where the header couples to the Y-pipe.

All in all though they look ok just not show quality and they do a good job. I'm running 325HP on my '95Z with the mods in my signature.

BTW for others to answer, How much more HP/Torque do long tubes typically add over shortys and mid-lengths?

it was just the standard silver finish from Jet Hot. It does dull some not long after heat cycles to what it looks like now

I believe there are several colors to chose from now but mine are just their standard coating

Bought my Hedman log tubes for my 70 302 Ford direct from Jet Hot. Those held up well also.
