Fuel? Start checking for leaky injectors, and the FPR for being broken. Maybe the pump is bad too. Get a fuel pressure gauge and check the pressure.

Check the coil and ignition module and make sure the rotor is on correct and the opti is in it's correct slot or the splines or installed correct(93&94)

but yeah that sensor u are talking about, i believe is the iac - idle air controller and that being gone will cause your car to run like crap

Re: Another firing up problem

Pull your #1 plug and bump it over with your finger in the hole till ya hear a woosh. Then look at which way the rotor is pointing. It won't run 180 out,but it will backfire big time.
Have that stuff checked before ya spend the money.

The original problem sounds like some unit was getting hot and not functioning so I would try to correct that problem also. I think something is off with the opti and the new rotor and cap is why it don't run and backfiring and the previous not starting is the coil or ignition module.
After fixing whatever is wrong disconnect the bat for 5 minutes to reset the computer. It will take it 50/100 miles of driving to relearn.
