Another Exhaust thread... newbie here

Ok, I've spent about an hour reading and searching exhaust posts. Just wanted some one to confirm my findings, cause it seems to be a tired question. Am looking to help pick/put a cat back system on a guys 94 Z28 this weekend. He wants a full 3" system, is leaning towards the American Thunder Flowmaster system. He is going to get a set of full length headers in the future, but the budget won't allow for it right now. The total lack of pipes from the cat back is making a system necessary though right now. Looks like his options are:

Dynomax ~ $280 (2 1/2" tips)
Edelbrock ~ $290 (3" tips, sst muffler)
Hooker Aerochamber ~ $280 (funky dual tips)
Flowmaster ~ $370 (3" tips sst)

From what I've read, it seems that tone and loudness seem to be the only real differences, and a matter of preference really.

My question about true dual pipes, you must have headers correct? (probably the only way it's worth while HP wise). You can then fit an X pipe, 3" duals w/ tube style muffers under the car then exit out the back?

Long post I know, but some confirmation would be very appriciated.

i ran the magnaflow. 3" dual tips. there are pics in the website. i took off the assmaster. the magnaflow sounds great.

you could do shorties or mids and still run a true dual exhaust but i dont see why. if your going to do dual exhaust do it. run the long tubes with an x pipe. your going to need two mufflers and maybe two cats (smog stuff in your area??). the cat back seems like a waste of money if your eventually doing true dual. IMHO

Flowmaster sucks IMO as I took mine off and replaced it with my Hooker Catback and now I get compliments on the sound all the time. The 2 best, cheap catbacks for the LT1 are hands down the Hooker, or Magnaflow and you can get different tips for the Hooker when ordering, either the dual/dual, or single tuble tips.

Yeah it's another guys car, so ultimately his say. I don't like Flowmaster, I put Dynomax Ultra Flos on my car and love them. He's being kinda ignorant in his demand of 3" tips, I think he's fooling himself a little. I think he'd like the Hooker or Edelbrock systems more, sense it sounds like it is louder then the others. He wants a loud system. I'd push for the Dynomax w/ Ultraflo, but they don't make a kit that way, and to add the muffler is like $165. He's got to do something, cause it has no exhaust from the cat back. Actually he doesn't have a cat either, emissions isn't a problem in the area. Sorta mad, Summit had the Edelbrock on clearence for $215 in the morning, gone by the afternoon, so missed out there.

If he wants loud then tell him to get the SLP LoudMouth.

The SLP loudmouth doesn't even look like anything but straight pipes! How much louder is it do you think???

Here are sound clips of almost every catback you can think of.

Magnaflow with 3 1/2 tips.. Loud but real nice sound, not the tinny sound of the SLP's..Oh and did I mention that there all stainless? most of the others are aluminized steel and I bought the from JEGs for $323 shipped

I just put flowmasters on my car and I think it sounds great. I got the SOR that has the 30 series muffler and not a crossflow though. It will sound ten times better IMO (deeper and more volume) once you gut the cat.
