another "best spark plug" thread

basically, i've got an intake and exhaust right now
looking for headers over the winter maybe, so nothing really changed from stock, engine wise
what kind do you guys like or reccommend?
i heard ngk-55s (?) are good
the ac delcos though have their pucks break off though?
also, should i just keep the stock gap?
i'm not gonna be running nitrous or anything so i'm thinking just stock gapwise

I had never heard anyone mention this about NGK's but I dislike them because the part where the wire's boot connects to them, tend to come loose. You can actually uncrew it.
So I switched to Autolites.

Re: another "best spark plug" thread

I got a question while we're on the spark plug topic. How much did you guys spend on all 8 plugs? I went to my auto parts place and they said it takes this one and only one AC Delco that cost $6.50 a plug, that's around $48 for all 8. Does that sound right? When i replaced the plugs in my '83 they only cost like 20 bucks.

They are ripping you off. It should cost about 10 dollars for Autolite 104's non platinum. If you're stock then probably go with Autolite 106's, they should be the same price. Nowhere near 48 bucks. Tell them to step away from the crack pipe.

Platinum plugs aren't designed for performance. Autolites and NGK's are the best.

Re: another "best spark plug" thread

Best plug is the rapid fire but they are $$$$$ i have done research on the matter calling differnt makers and stuff i work at a Napa and i have found that NGK irediens ( sorry about the spelling) and the AC rapid fire are the best for a stock internail motor and great for those nitro and turbo guys. AS for the hotcam pple i dont know, but i could feel the differents going from a tr55 to a rapid fire.

Re: another "best spark plug" thread

The Rapidfire is MARKETTING, they are a single platinum plug that will work decent IF you get the right heat range but they will not work any better other than longevity over a TR55 or 104.
The Iridiums might be able to produce a slight bit more power since the fine electrode could allow better flame travel but that will depend on random chance as to which way it points in the chamber once installed.

If you don't mind changing plugs every 20K or so try the TR55 or 104 if you want to leave them in a long time then consider the delcos platinums or iridiums.
