Aluminum rocker vs Other rocker?

Aluminum rocker vs Other rocker?

Whats a better rocker for mild to high modifications with a 95Z with the LT1? I was looking at Crane Cams Gold Race Aluminum roller rocker 1.6 3/8 stud non self aligning. Then again, I hear alot about the Comp Cams Pro Magnum Rocker 1.6 7/16 stud? Also, what major difference will I notice from a 3/8 to a 7/16, or will is it just better on the motor? Thanks

Go to the parts store and get a 3/8 stud and 7/16 Stud. You will see why the 7/16 stud / rocker is just a TON more beefy. I had 3/8 Alluminum Harlan Rockers. I had a nasty clearance problem from by rocker arm and my valve spring retainer. I threw those away and bought some Comp Pro Magnums, Now I have tons of room. The Comp Pro Magnums are a ton stronger to, their bearings also feel a lot smoother than the harlan and the crane rockers to me. When I comes time for the motor to be put in the Mustang, I will have ONLY two choices....

The LT1 uses a 3/8 stud. Unless you are racing and have very high spring pressures I don't see where you would need 7/16 studs. Unless you install pushrod guide plates you will need self aligning rockers

There are differences with both the design of RRs and the materials used. Whether or not you prefer one over the other somethings depends on personal preference. As mentioned above the SS or chromoly RRs tend to be smaller sized. I believe SS is stronger and more durable. Most alum RRs are not rebuildable while most SS RRs are rebuildable. I have used both over the years depending on the application and my budget at the time.

My strongest advice whether you get alum or SS is to buy a high quality set from a major manufacturer. This means you pay more money. The lower priced RRs tend to have poorer quality bearings, weigh more, are larger and probably are not as durable. As for brand names, I like Comp and Crower products in general and I tend to buy the premium SS RRs.

7/16 stud is worth it over the stock 3/8 stud just for peace of mind...valvetrain is one place where you can't go wrong with more support...
