Aluminum or iron heads

I have heard that some 94+ LT1's came with aluminum heads, is there a way to check this out?

Hehe yes you walk over to your engine bay look at your engine then more specifically your heads and see if they're iron or aluminum. Yes my buddies 94 z has aluminum heads on it and pretty the 93's did aswell.

I thought all the F-Body and Corvette LT1's were aluminum heads and all the B-Body LT1's were iron heads out of the factory.

Actually, all 93-97 F-body LT1s had iron cylinder heads that were painted silver. Only the Corvette LT1s received the aluminum heads. That is why when you look in the classified ads or on Autotrader, and a dealership advertises a F-Body with the Corvette engine, you know an aluminum headed LT1 has been swapped in.

my friend's 96 has factory aluminum heads on it. a book that he has tells us that it should have iron heads but we were very happy to discover that they are aluminum!

Re: Aluminum or iron heads

LT1 f-body + y-body = aluminum head
LT1 B-body + D-bpdy = iron head
That book is worthless.

If that was an attempt to be funny, you failed.

Re: Aluminum or iron heads

I thought 93 LT1 F-Bodys had iron heads (not to mention SD also). After that from 94 up, LT1 F-bodys then recieved aluminum heads.
