Alternator Question
I need a new alternator for my 94 TA. I know theres 2 listed, a 124 amp and a 140 amp. Would the 140 Amp fit on my car? It has the 124 amp on now, just wondering if physically it's the same size.

I think the 124-amp alternator was used on the 93's. In 94 they went to 140-amp. I doubt there's any difference in the mounting or the valve cover clearance. Sounds like someone may have replaced yours with the incorrect one.
From the pictures i'm getting (I work at abc) it looks like the 124 amp might have slightly wider mounting brackets...but not completely sure.
I am for sure on one thing tho, the alternator fan that comes attached is different, but won't matter.

That's strange because I called around and the auto parts stores were saying that it could be either one on a 94. I called the Chevy dealer with my vin and they said it was the 124 but they might not really know what they're talking about. I work at a Ford dealer and they're under the same owners as us and some of the things they say and do over there scare me. Although the ACDELCO website listed the same thing. hmmm.
I bought the car back in 2000 and it only had 12k miles on it when i bought it, so I'm pretty sure its still the stocker. Either way I guess I'll just order the part number I got from Shoebox's website. Thanks.

Is your VIN an early production model? A couple other things that got switched in 94 were not done on the very early production models, like the oil pressure sensor relocation, and the fan relay change.
I'm not really sure. The car is in hibernation in my dads garage and I don't happen to have the VIN at my apartment. I'm going over there later to throw a battery charger on her and get her ready to drive. I'll get the VIN and build date while I'm there.
Early 94s could have had the 124A. They changed to 140s during the model year. I have read of people swapping from the 124 to 140 and they never mentioned any mounting issues.
Look at your RPO codes in the glovebox.
KG9=140A
