alternator problem?
alternator problem?
well good news, my car is off jackstands and running...without the stumbling it had last year. turned out to be a connector for one of my SP wires came loose from the opti. saw it when i was installing my MBA under and over drive pulleys this weekend. now to the bad news. i was going to polish my stock alternator if some of you can remember, but i ended up buying a new chrome 140 amp alternator from Summitracing. so i went to install the new alternator with the MBA polished fan installed on it, and it wouldnt line up right with the brackets. Summit told me this alternator was for a Caprice, but all the i had to do was unbolt the rear end housing of the alternator and turn it and it would fit a camaro. so i unbolt the rear of the alternator and spin the back housing around and low and behold it fits like a champ. so i start my car up and it fires and runs perfect, but the next thing i know my Check Gauges light come on and i notice that my battery gauge is down by the red line. so i continue to let the car run and its drops more down into the red until its almost down to the zero setting on the gauge. by now, my car sounds like its running a little weird and all my lights check lights are on and my radio or nothing will turn on. so i turn off the car, charge it for a couple hours and start it again. runs fine...then it all starts all over again!! do you guys think i might have done something to the alternator when i turned the rear of it around a quater turn? im lost!!! please help! thanks

Did you pull it apart to turn it, or just spin it? I'm thinking maybe the brushes came out of position but I doubt that could happen without you knowing it.

I'm with ArcticYT95TA on this one. If it works good, leave it alone. too many times i have toyed and tampered with things and wound up having to corect them. Well, on second thought, if you got the time, it can be a learning experiance.
