I broke the clip off of the electrical plug in that goes in the back of the alternator. Where do you find this electrical plug (I don't know what it's called). It's part of the wiring harness. I asked the guys at the chevy dealership and they said they don't make it anymore but said most auto parts stores should have it. So, if you've replaced it where did you get it and what is it called?

This is not the hot wire that sends the electircal current out of the alternator...

 

I believe it's the signal pigtail for the gauge. Not positive though. You can get buy with just shoving a spade connector on the end I believe.

 

GM PART # 88987962 , AC-Delco # PT494 as listed on my Tech Page. It does go to the gauge cluster, but your alternator won't charge without this wire hooked up.

Can you just supply power to it to make your alt. charge or is it more complicated than that?

 

i've seen replacement gm alternator pigtails at autozone, they're in the same section as headlight wiring harness replacements
just dont ask the guys behind the counter they wont know what your looking for

 

As long as you add a 470 ohm resistor inline, it would work. If you run it straight to 12v, it will not (or may damage the alternator).

 

Or if your really determined you can find the regulators that don't require an external feed and swap it out.
