almost got beat by a near stock TA?

I have the mods in sig, and i raced a friend of mine who ran 13.6 (1/4). We were almost dead even, which should not be happening. All he has is a homemade ghetto CAI, an exhaust cutout after the cat, and hypertech programmer. My car has a pcm4less tune but i dont think that it is right...my car runs VERY rich. people always tell me my exhaust smells like gas, black smoke/etc. At idle if you stand behind it for a few secs your eyes will water. When i bought the car it said PCM4less tune for no AIR and EGR...im wondering if he got it programmed before all the other mods were done? any ideas? its embarassing

if your running rich ... then more than likely you fouled out your plugs how does the car run?

i checked the plugs about 3 weeks ago b/c i thought the same thing too, but they were fine. it pulls hard, but i can tell it should pull harder than it does...it also surges pretty bad under 1500rpms

put a vacuum gauge to your manifold and see how much vacuum your pulling you could possibly have a leak

i will do that, i might also need to add that it still has the factory airbox with a k&n filter in it...and the intake elbow is ripped right where it goes onto the TB so there is definetley a leak there.. the MAF was descreened but i put it back in a few weeks ago. I just ordered a CAI which should be here this week, and I am still trying to find a chrome elbow for a good price

once you get those issues sorted out youll be fine, your deff running rich due to that leak so the pcm is trying to compensate by adding more fuel

If the plugs look good, then most likely you're not running rich. Having an ORY will make it smell like that regardless. You may run rich at WOT, but the only way to tell is to us a wideband O2 setup. Even on the stock timing tables, with a cam and headwork, you should be quicker than a stockish LT1. You should do a log of the car and see how everything looks.

You should be pulling away from him with ease. Do what the above guy mentioned, pull some logs and see what is going on.

someone also brought up to me that i might need o2 sensors, and that it is staying in closed loop? (high idle, rich)

How far did you race? how long (a few secs?), were you dead even when you started, was it from a stop?

Why would bad O2 sensors cause a high idle? Also, how do you know it is running rich? My car will make your eyes water at idle and it runs an a/f of about 13.8:1. Like I said, not having cats will make a big difference. Someone also suggested a vacuum leak.
