Alright, so I stopped at a gas station and after sitting about 5 minutes i put the clutch in and started the car and all of a sudden it just sputtered out and died. I tried to start it several times after that and sometimes it wouldnt even come close and other times it would start for a second, reach 500 rpms and then it would just die. after sitting there for about 1/2 an hour i tried to start it and it fired right up and ran ok. I drove it over to the shop i work at about a block away just to be safe, but i was wondering if anyone had any ideas? Im guessin fuel pump but i just want some more opinions and ideas of where to look.

 

1. do a visula inspection of the engine bay .
2.when was the last time you changed your fuel filter ?
3.have you done any mods lately if so back track all your steps .
4.if all that is ok check refference voltage at the pump,do a flow test on the pump or use scope to scan fro glitches in the pump.maybe check injector pulse with with a noid light , you could have a stuck open injector fludding your engine which will cause rough start conditions .
5.check fuel press.if ok next step
6.check for spark.

I've had a decent amount of starting problems with this car. The first time, the wires going to the ignition switch fried up (doubt this is your problem). The second time, it was the fuel pump but it just died and wouldn't start back up. The third time I ran out of gas when my gas gauge read over 1/4 tank so I put gas in it and got the gauge problem fixed. The fourth was the opti. It sputtered in the low rpms for a while and occasionally wouldn't start unless I cranked it for a while. Then one day I backed out of a parking spot and it died completely and but I had a coolant leak previously coming from the water pump so I think that's what did the opti in. Check out your opti. Shoebox has a couple ways to test if your opti is working so check it out.

 

thanks for the ideas guys, the fuel filter has been changed in the last two months. I also havent done any mods besides a cold air intake. i am gonna hook up our snap on scanner today and see if i cant find anything with that. i just wish that it would repeat the situation when i get to it, so i can figure it out for sure
