FLYWHEEL horsepower.
for about the same price you can get ported LT1 heads, with a larger cam, and make over 400 REAR WHEEL horsepower.
i would not spend the money on the lt4 heads. you could spend around 700 on your stock castings and get better results and be able to run a bigger cam which would equal to more hp at the wheels.

2300 will take you a long way. PP stock heads $400-2500, big cam 306 $250, lifter/rods/valves/rockers 800+. You will blast a LT-4 with PP stocker heads and a big cam.

My hot cam kit with a $600 gasket matched port job on LT-1 heads made 372 RWHP. So I got that for less than $1000.
Another thing is, is that GM does not sell bare casting LT-4 heads anymore. You have to buy them complete. Not to mention that if you have an automatic, lt-4's aren't going to work worth the crap anyway unless you have a larger CI bottom end. Thats why all true LT-4 cars came with 6-speeds. Lots of local guys with autos have done the LT-4 conversion and there cars are SLOW. 13.1-13.5's for $2300 sucks. They have all the accompanied mods also. Your money can be much better spent else where. IMO.

Where are you guys getting your heads ported for less then $1000? I would like to know so I dont have to spend 1500 on a set of TEA ported heads. Also they pulled 429 with LT4 heads and hotcam with all bolt ons, thats like 370rwhp, good enough to send you to the 12s. If you want more then go with a cc306 sized cam and you will probably be close to 400rwhp without even having the heads ported yet. Beast96z, did you not see that I said that you can get BARE LT4 castings for Tbyrne? Unless they have stoped selling them and havnt updated their website. I would do this if I didnt already have ported heads. Also how many ported LT1 heads do you see that flow over 255-260 peak? Everyone else seems to be doing that except for a few people, TEA and Phil.
I wasnt talking about spending 2300 on the LT4 conversion either. If you look at my breakdown at the top, you can do the LT4 conversion for less then 2000, even after valves, retainers, and seals. You could also use your guide plates from your LT1 heads if you wish and then sell what was left over from the LT1 heads and make back atleast $150.

I don't know if you saw my post or not but you will not get 400rwhp with a cc306 cam and unported heads.
I would probably be at 370 or 375 at the wheels on a dyno jet the way I am now. That is with pretty much every bolt on plus. This is also dyno tuned. I am shooting for 400rwhp after the heads are done next winter.
Don't get me wrong I love this set up and it's potential, but if it didn't already come with the lt4 in it, I would be porting out my stock lt1 heads that were in the last car.

He is well under 1000 bucks and above 255-260cfm.
Yes the 370 was on a mustang dyno but I no for a fact that those numbers are spot on. There were three z06's that dynoed before me that pulled 345 to 350 and with the drivetrain loss that is rate on the money. There was also a 2003 cobra rate of the showroom floor that pulled 355 to the wheels.
Most of the stock LS1's were any where from 290 to 313, Jason Deblers being the 313. LS1 Corvette's were pulling between 320 and 328 with very minor things done to them. Those are the real world numbers.
