To all LT4 nay sayer....

In one of the Vette mags, I dont remember which one, they put a LT4 head and intake with a zz9 cam and TPIS lts and got 380rwhp and 376rwtq. I know everyone has been saying that you can go more with ported LT1 heads then stock LT4 heads. I was looking at Tbyrne website and they offer LT4 heads bare and LT4 intake. So take those two and even get just the hotcam kit and you have a h/c swap for less then $2k that with all the boltons will put down some impressive power.

LT4 bare heads: 974.99
LT4 intake: 219.99
LT4 hotcam: ~500.00

I think the hotcam kit goes for that much, but I couldnt find a price anywhere.

So at that to all the boltons plus a tune and you are looking at less then $4k for 400+ bhp! Plus you can sell you LT1 heads and get about $200 back.

With the mods in my sig. I pull consistant 360rwhp and 340rwt on a mustang dyno. In cold open loop I have a 370rwhp. This is with stock LT4 heads. I would say that you would have to have at least headers to achieve some decent numbers.

i just got the Jim Pace catalog and they are selling the red LT4 intake, LT4 heads, and Hot Cam kit for $2300

AND, they claim 425 hp w/ 52mm throttle body

little high? these are un-ported, un-port-matched pieces.

with long tubes, no cats?

The heads and intake where stock, no porting involved. You could get the bare heads and intake from tbyrne and get the htocam kit and still spend less then the LT4 conversion from Pace Parts. If you wanted more then the hotcam, you could always go to CMotorsports and get thier kit for cam install they sell now for a little more then the hotcam kit and get a bigger cam. Anyways the idea was you could do a h/c swap about the same to if not less then ported LT1 heads and put down very similar #s.

Talking

Does anyone know off-hand what the specs are on the ZZ9 cam, and on that install did that article mention what ratio rocker arms they used. Those are some pretty impressive horsepower numbers for so little money. By the way, this reply was sent by a phone!

Ok....I am new to the car scene and have been considering the Lt4 conversion. The thing I wasnt sure about was, was whether the HC kit contained the parts to complete a bare head. I guess this answers my question or does it? Will there be anything I need?

If you buy the bare castings, you are going to need valves, plan to cough up another $160.

If I'm not mistaken, the Hotcam kit will not contain oil seals, studs or valves, just the cam, springs, locks, retainers and 1.6 roller rocker arms.

lt4 = waste of money.

ported lt1 heads with valve work + cam + boltons = 400+ rwhp for the same prices (or less).

the only reason to get LT4s is if you were gonna port them.......and if youre gonna spend that much money, its better to just get AFR's for around the same.

so it doesnt make any financial sense to buy LT4s except to say "i got an LT4".

the magazine your referring to is vette fever and the shop that did the work is the place i work. no really it is click the speed hound link in my sig and see for yourself. theres more to that engine than just heads cam and intake. the heads were CNC machined and port matched to the intake. the injectors were increased and flow matched. the tunning and all the necessary accesories were added too.

the point of that engine wasnt all out power it was managable street power. the car it went in is a 95 vette. the car runs low 12's on radials and gets 25ish mpg on the open road and passes emmisions i believe. not sure on the emissions thing though. yes you can probrably do better but its not bad power at all for how docile it is. i plan on doing somethinng similar to my formula possibly. id like the same results though.

and for a preview of whats coming up. click on the link and see my bosses car. it will be in vette enthusiast for the july issue. its a new magazine and im not sure if its out yet. later Trey

Cool

Lt4 heads.hot cam ,heavy duty timing chain and gears,lt4 intake, headers, with cat=429 hp.This stuff has been around a long time.I just don't have the bread to go that far .Then, there is the trans build-up,and then the rear, and then the suspension to keep the car on the ground. The Lt4 heads are 30+hp right out of the box ,and ft directly onto the LT1.(Can't remember about the throttle body however). If anybody needs the stats,I'll go pull out the old hot rod mag with the article about this.My02

Those numbers are nothing special and not a good comparision. The Hot Cam is definately smaller and will be more driveable with better emissions(for those of us who have to worry about that).
