All down hill from 80K?
All down hill from 80K?
Ok, so I noticed a high RPM "back fire" or some loud noise when my 95 was down shifting, like merging on the highway. Then one day about two weeks ago I went to start my car, like I do every morning, and it wouldn't start. I put a timing light on the #1 plug wire and it was firing so I unplugged and replugged in the MAF. Finally I gave it the old full throttle trick and after much cranking and many "almost starts" she fired up in a cloud of raw gas. Long story shorter it has done the same thing two more times (one more in the driveway and once it died at a stop light). Here is the kicker it runs great all of the time it is driving. So is there life after 80,000 miles?
I really appreciate your help,
Matt

there is life after 80K dude, mine has 120K and i think my opti is still the original one...i bought this car at 104K and i dont know wheter the previous owner has change the opti or not, but i believe it's still the stock one
So when your opti went did it go all at once or did it work on and off for a while? I just can't under stand why it runs great most of the time but once in a while it just won't start. Could it just be the coil or am I just wishfully thinking?
Thanks guys,
Matt

Pretty much depends on how you maintain and drive the car I guess. If you race it around a lot and dont tend to it's every need, you're going to be faced with lots of problems. As soon as you fix one thing, another will go. And it will continue until you replace every consumable piece of the car, after that it will go another 100k with little trouble. Not too bad, luckily it's all external parts, the motor itself is semi-indestructable.
After 140,000 miles I thought mine was the opti too. But after replacing it along with the harness jumper to the opti, the ICM, trying a new coil to bypass my holley ignition, I just took mine to the dealer because I'm sure it's the PCM. The ignition problems on a 95 won't neccessarily throw a code everytime but some things will even on the OBD 1 system. You should take it in for an $80 scan to find out exactly what the problem is. You'll be glad you did. On a side note, I still love my car, think there is life after all this, and will really enjoy having a GREAT ride when I get this worked out. Good Luck.
