All 9-11 second cars running the T-56

Im heading to the track this weekend to see what the car will run. My only consern is hooking with the six speed and distroying the tranny. Has anyone lifted the front tire(s) with the six speed and still lived?

I have run a best of 1180's on a stock T-56 out of a 93 camaro. Still spun the tires out of the hole a little though so my front wheels didnt lift. I have heard though from many as soon as you can lift the front wheels, either the rear will blow and if the rear is strong then the trans.

It's pretty strong. I never broke mine and ran 1.51sec 60' times in my 4,100lb car+driver combo. Yes, the front tires did lift off the track a couple of inches.

you forget to mention tanner broke his the last time out.
Tanner pulls 1.3 60 foot times. his was mostly stock, cold treated input and output shafts, and he lifts the tires way up, (350 holeshot) but at the nats his torque arm snapped and the output shaft broke off. Not sure which gave out first.

Not sure about the torque arm but his output shaft did break. He brought it to D&D in Wixom to get the 30 spline viper output shaft, which should hold fine.

My car is capable of running a low 9/high 8. But I will never get an 8 out of a 6spd maybe a high/mid 9 with my six speed. However I dont think the stock bell housing will ever pass tech. Anyone know of a company that sells a nice bell housing for the six speed?

I know Im going to get booted from the track because the car still has no cage, maybe next year. Im going to try some slicks at the track and do a few 1/8 mile passes. Keep it slow and go all out on the last run and see if I can pull off a 9

Buddy "Taner" that's how it's spelt is a very good friend of mine. WE pulled his tranny the following monday. The output shaft broke because the torque arm let go causing the rear end to shift upward putting the driveshaft slip yoke on an exccesive angle. So when he launched it snapped the op shaft. And his best 60ft is a 1.27. So before you post make sure you know what you are talking about.

Edit he was only running a 250 shot.

WTF are you talking about, I spelled his name wrong sorry, I watched him brake it, I pushed his car off the line and I looked under it with him. I didnt get to see it on a lift thats why I ddint know exactly the way it happened but I basicly said the same thing. torque arm and output shaft. And I said he hits it with a 350 shot, and thats what his 1.27 run was on, I know the run where he broke it was on a 250 shot. So back off.

To clarify things his tranny would not have broke if the torque arm didn't let go. And his 1.27 60ft was at St. thomas dragway in Canada. Just trying to let sleeperz28 know that he should be fine. Sorry didn't know you where there.

I know his parts are frozen but the parts except for a steel shift fork are pretty much stock. Roman's on the other hand is completely stock and he ran 9.94.

Taner can certainly speak for himself, and as I said in my previous post I put a T-56 thorough a bit of stress myself . I think Taner has had his apart a few times already. So as with any other part, the more hp you put through it and the more times you do it the more likely it is to break. I switched to a TH400 but am going to miss a manual in many ways.

It is a very strong street tranny. But it does have it's limits. For a heavy car like a 4th gen, you can expect to start breaking T56's when the car gets in to mid to low 10's. You might break it sooner, and you might be lucky. Speed shifting, which I did not do, can't help much either.

If the TH400 doesn't work, it's a Lenco for me. I recently had an extended drive in a SC 5.0 with a new Lenco install, and contrary to my previous impressions, I could live with it easily. Trouble is, a 5-speed would be ~$5,500 for the tranny alone and would require a lot of custom work. But it appears to be bullet proof for anything a SBC could dish out. And those full throttle upshifts are awesome.
