Air pump

Hey, new guy here. Have a 94 Z28 that needs some work. Took it to have codes read, and says that the air pump is bad. I can also tell the cat is messed up, it'll get hot enough to glow. Was thinking about removing the pump/cats all together. I've done some reading, the pump won't be an HP improvement, just un-clutter the engine bay some, will need to block some things off, and get the computer "tuned" so the error doesn't show all the time. The cats, I'll just fab up a patch pipe for now, probably get headers and a better exhaust in the future. What/how should I do the computer, I bet a dealer is NOT going to program it accordingly, does Hypertech, Granetelli, or anyone else make a product that'll do this? I figure money wise, it'll be close to remove the pump and have to added bonus of tunability for future upgrades. Thanks.

OK folow this writeup! to remove the air pump, but remember that the writeup is for adding headers that don't have AIR fittings so you need to block them off.. on my 95 formula I needed (2) -8 AN plugs, one for each manifold.. and for the cat since you only have the one just gut it like I did,
unbolt it whee the cat bolts to the catback and get a long hard object (I used the handle from the stock jack) and hammer out the hom=neycomb material inside the cat, then to make sure you got it all out just fire it up and rev it a bunch of times to get all the crap out of it!

Oh BTW, welcome to the board!

Re: Air pump

Thanks for the quick reply. Did you have a link of a write up in there, or did you mean just follow what you typed? What about the computer too? Thanks for the welcome.

Re: Air pump

The 93-95 cars will not set a code or an SES light when the AIR pump is deleted, as long as there is still a good fuse in the circuit. No PCM programming required.
