Personally I bought a shorter CAI, so it would sit higher in the engine bay, and then did the Cool Air Mod (RAM air is far from what it does). I used general household heating duct to make it, and I think it turned out pretty well:

I was kind of hoping to hear from a some who had not covered there intake and did not have trouble I may consider this mod with some sort of modification so the water will not make it in. It may be restrictive some but better than water in my engine

I was thinking something along the lines of having a bend in it similar to my four wheeler clutch intake. It has a bend so that small amounts of water are caught in the bend and can not go straight up through. I am not sure there would be enough room though. I will work on it and post what I come up with. I have Air Induction on my 80 Z28 and it doesnt lool like they did anything with that scoop on the hood and I have seen it suck water right off the hood. Maybe something like that a flippy door controlled by a selenoid on the gas pedal Hmmmmmm I could even use the 80 setup for the pedal and actuator.

what about something that goes up in an S like shape so you still get the cold air but rain would becaught in the curve of the S???

like theair comming in this way-----> S and it goes up the tube like that,,you know??

just thinking....or maybee a peice of air conditioner air filter in the duct to block the rain but still get the air in there???

dont know about puddles though...

i dont see a CAI kit sucking up much rain water straight up the tube all the way to the TB. Unless u submerged the bottom of it in a puddle or something....but even then it will still have plenty of air to suck thats not submerged. if the entire filter is forced to suck nothing but water you have bigger problems.

yea....I think your right..hmmm..I think when I do this mod..I will just put some A/C filter in the middle to deflect and rain and a small wire mesh screen to keep any critters out

just looking for some colder forced air..and getting cold air in there is what that mods about ..not really a ram air..right??

I've done this mod but with a hinge at the rear so that I can close the scoop when I'm not using it. It's probably good for around 5 horses. I generally see .05 when I open it.

If i were to do a "scoop" down there like that i would have a scoop facing the real of the car too. that way there is fresh air flowing in and out of that chamber instead of what is being "rammed" in there.......also this is like the same argument of ram air hoods; the consencious is that unless your going very fast (~180+), there is not a "ramming" effect.

I say do your best to make it have fresh, flowing air. with just the scoop, i dont see where the air will go to (other than up the filter). Not the engine bay cuz for instance, my K&N CAI has a blocked off section where there is the braket.

I think the term ram air..for this set up is just to ram colder air into that chamber than whats in the area if its just closed up.
