air/fuel gauge pod = crazy light show.
air/fuel gauge pod = crazy light show.
As the title says my new gauge pod keeps flashing from lean to rich constantly. I've got it wired to both O2 sensors and i'm postive I've got the wiring currect. The only problem I think may lie in the switch. I needed a single pole double throw switch and found one that looks like this (::
. I soldered the gauge singnal wire to the top row center terminal and the left and right sensors to its own terminal on the top row as well. My assumption would be that my gauge is reading both sensors at once, hence the constant change in readings. Or am I totally wrong here and do they always work this way.
Please help.

Totally wrong
Chances are good you have it wired correctly.
Once in closed loop it WILL look like a light show going constantly back and forth nearly full range. When you go wide open throttle, THAT is when you look at the gauge to see if you are running lean or rich.
Now, you might have it hooked up incorrectly but you can't base this off just the light show because that is what it does under normal conditions when not at WOT or open loop.

Man if i knew they would be moving back and forth like that i wouldn't have gotten one, haha. Its such a distraction and a bit annoying. I 'll have to check it a WOT thommorow.

AutoMeter explains what its going to look like on their website, and has an animation of the lights swinging back and forth from rich to lean. Its been discussed here a number of times... the A/F ratio gauge is little more than a psychedelic light show, and provides reltively meaningless data at WOT. It will tell you if your O2 sensor is dead, or if you have a catastrophic fuel supply failure, but that's about all. Your money would be better invested in a wide-band setup like the Innovate Motorsports LM-1.

If you don't want to spend the money on the wide band, the next best thing (which would provide somewhat useful info) might be a ScanMaster. At least with the ScanMaster you can see a number
