air foil
air foil
i recently got an air foil for my car from thunderracing.com i put it in and my car ran like crap. so i checked it out and it ripped my intake elbow. so i folded it back in place and it kinda ran ok after that.
i know i need a new intake elbow. should i get a 1le or just a stock one and i need a new gasket for my throttle body plate cause that is all stretched out. any other ideas of why my car would be running like crap?

get a vortec or trickflow. It is your best bet. i got tired of replacing ripped elbows. its worth the extra $30.
also, get a whole TB gasket set from a parts store. I found out that all my gaskets in there were shot when i took mine off to polish it.

For one, IMO the airfoil is a waste of money. Some people have a different view of it.
Where the intake elbow mates up to the throttle body, it has to seal good or you will get a leak, thus your problem you were getting with the car not running good.
My suggestion is pick up a used one from a local junk yard and replace the one you ripped. No need to waste more money when the stock one works as good as the after market one. You can save your money for mods that will show more performance.

Their is a hole in the bottom middle of the throttle body between the blades. It's small, like 1/16". It's hard to see when the throttle body is on the car. The airfoil covers it up. Most airfoils have a small cut out so air can get in there but it's usually not big enough from my experience. The hole goes to a small channel in the lower part of the throttle body and is seen by the IAC (Idle Air Control) sensor. Their are only two sensors on the Throttle body. The TPS (on the top) and the IAC (on the bottom). Both are on the passenger side. Does the problem stop if you remove the airfoil??

i bought the hypertech airfoil in my 95, it never gave me any problems and it fit like a glove, what brand did you buy? also i can't see how an airfoil would give drivabilty problems, but most people don't put back the elbow properly, that's what happened with mine almost, it was kinda tricky to put it back on, especialy getting it to fit properly from underneath.
