Air Filters

Has anybody tried the new Blue air filters from Accel, or the new line from Barry Grant? How do they stack up against K&N?

Are any of these really better horsepower wise over regular paper element filters?

They're probably all made by K&N, with a different color. Do you really think Accel is going to tool up and start a new factory for air cleaners.

Any hp increase probably would be undetectable. If the stock filter was restricting power, don't you think they would have put in a larger one?

Hot Rod magazine just did a write-up on this subject a few months ago...if memory serves me correctly, the differences were negligible, but the Barry Grant outflowed the others....I'll have to go dig that issue out of the bathroom library and re-read the article...

so the K&N ones don't give the car any extra performance? cause i paid like 4 times as much as a regular air filter for a K&N, i hope this wasn't for nothing!

K&N are better than stock, no matter what somebody says.

K&N's, Accel's, etc. flow more, cleaner air for a whole lot longer than a paper element if cleaned and oiled properly. Power increase is proportional to how much more air the motor can use. A non-modded car will see little benefit. Add a well-flowing exhaust and the motor will need more air coming in to feed it. Add cam and heads -- there's more flow needed. It all depends on what you want to accomplish. I like not ever having to buy another air filter again. Maybe that will save money in the long run over the $50 initial cost.

I'll proably just go with K&N or another stock filter right now. K&N is pretty widely available (Auto Zone,O'reilly)even out here in the boonies.
