Air in Cooling System

So my car had been sitting for two weeks until i got in it today and felt the effects of a plug/wire change. It ran hot the entire trip. I get home and open the bleeder screws and sat for about 3 minutes while it hissed. I don't understand how that much air could have gotten in the system as i had not done any work to that particular part of the car. The car has 120k, just wondering if it was possible a blown head gasket could allow air to be "sucked" in somehow?

Check your radiator cap first, make sure the rubber is in good shape.....
