Check the air bag fuse #10 the 15 amp fuse in the I/P fuse panel. If it is blown, it will cause the light to come on steady.

Did you do any work near the steering wheel? Could the connector at the base of the column be disconnected? Yellow tubing covered wires. Did you move the steering wheel or do any work with the SIR coil? Don't think scanning will give you anything since the system is independent from the PCM.

no work on the steering wheel besides diconecting the steering shaft in the engine bay, and spinning the steering wheel around a whole bunch.

what does that lil black box on the passangers side that had the single wire going to it do? (from the wire bundle that goes thru the firewall

If you rotated it too many times, you probably broke the SIR coil wire that runs down the column. Possibly even a few other wires in there can be damaged.

Re: Air Bag light on after engine swap

you ruined the sir coil in the steering column, just remove the steering wheel, its right bihind the wheel, remove the lower trim and the wires will pull through the column, along with the coil, put in a new sir coil and go to your local dealer to have the airbag codes cleared out

but then again if you didnt know about the sir coil you really shouldnt be working on an airbag system

never turn the steering wheel with the shaft disconnected, big no no

Re: Air Bag light on after engine swap

Yup, it's the coil...the little plastic cover on the steering knuckle has an important warning about turning the wheel without having the knuckle installed...bad things happen. We did the same on a friends car recently...we always seem to have to learn things the hard way!
