Aftermarket Valvecovers
Aftermarket Valvecovers
Hey guys,
Does anyone make aftermarket valvecovers that will work with roller rockers and still fit with the stock LT1 accessories?
I know you can make the stock covers work, I did in the past, but I didn't like that. I will if I have to again, but would like to stay away from it.
They worked fine but when I used over the valvecover wire mounts, the covers leaked. Mind you, I gutted the bridges and the bolt supports from the stockers.
If I have to gut the stockers again, what's the best way to "gut" them?
Thanks,
Igor.

Re: Aftermarket Valvecovers
I ordered some Chrome ones from Summitt about 4 years ago......Just had to dimple the area on the pass side to fit under the Alternator. Took about 5 minutes. Cleared the RR's just fine, no leaks(OEM gaskets used). I think they still sell them, like $39.00? GM performance parts had some nice ones in their catalog.
Re: Aftermarket Valvecovers
Well all I can find is late model sbc covers, no lt1 specific and none with the slot for alternator.
I have a set of chrome late model valvecovers that worked good with my rockers (on another late head sbc), but they will probably need some "help" to work. I can try them.
Any others?

Re: Aftermarket Valvecovers
I bought a pair off of this board from another member, they look similar to the centerbolt chrome Chevy logoed valve covers in the Summit magazine. There isn't alot of choices and it seems like whatever route you go, you may need to notch the alternator or the valve cover itself.
Re: Aftermarket Valvecovers
There is a company of EBAY that sells polished aluminum centerbolt covers for the LT1 that has the cutout for the alternator. I have bought two pairs and they come with the bolts and threaded insert for the oil cap. You will have to buy a breather to fit but they look great.
Re: Aftermarket Valvecovers
Your old ones leaked because you "... gutted the bridges and the bolt supports from the stockers."
Totally uneccessary. There's at least one thread showing how you only need to crimp the gussets on one side of the tube, and pinch the PCV vent line baffle to make them work. At most, you can cut out only one side of the gussets, leaving the tube and the other side intact, and they will not leak. Try a search... should turn up the thread with links to pictures.
"If I have to gut the stockers again, what's the best way to "gut" them?" Simple answer - don't "gut" them.

Re: Aftermarket Valvecovers
Thanks, I still kind of want a chrome set, but at $100 shipped I might just "mod" my stockers.
Found the ones on e-bay, they look nice, but like I said, $100 shipped. I'll buy some more parts for that for now.
