what are my oil pan options for a 383 lt1? i know of canton but is that the only lt1 f-body specific pan out there? if so what other pans are being used and how have they worked with your chasis or header setups?

I've only heard of Canton also...LPE just kept the stock pan on my 383...so far so good, since 1995...

another vote for Stef's. But I don't know if they fit Fbodies. I know the one I have is for a B-body.

you can get stroker notches or not. (383 should not need stroker notches).

Milodon. Buddy just did a 383 and used that pan. It's similar to the Canton but a little cheaper. The Milodon required a spacer under the engine mounts to keep the pan off the steering stuff but I do believe the Canton also requires this.

I have a Canton. Fits OK, but the stock is a good choice. More clearance down low than the Canton.

If you have a choice I wouldn't run a stock pan. Get a Canton and the oil pump pickup and be done. I am running it with a tube K member and no clearance issues, its close but not touching the factory PS.

Is that based on any actual reasoning or is it just "stock must be poor" mentality? Most reports I have seen put the stock pan and tray as being decent. Not saying it can't be upgraded but your post makes it sound flaud and like I said from everything else I have see n that is just not the case.

I build engines in my small shop, streight line and circle track.
The mentality is "I know what works" after 40 years of doing this.
There has been more than 1,On this board, and local, that have hurt their engines with a stock pan, trying to save a buck, some with and some without the baffle. You have to run the stock main bolts if you want to run the baffle.Whats the use in spending the money for add on 4 bolt caps and put bolts in that will allow the cap to "walk"???? Do you think the extra 2 3/8 bolts will prevent it?? NOT My advise is to get a pan,FWIW

Do a search and see how many you can find with oil pressure problems, just on this board.

Do a search about the Canton's. They have had some serious leak issues in the past. TPIS makes a good looking pan that sells for only $185.00. They have a picture of it on their site and it is a extra capacity that looks somewhat like the Canton. I may end up going with it on my buildup. A lot of peopl are using the Milodon pans also.

I bought a Canton, I think it is much nicier than a Mildon or Moroso. The Moroso pans seem to always leak from the oil drain plug when using there plug and gasket. The Canton has no leaks as of yet, but I'll keep my fingers crossed.

No problems with the stock pan on my 383. Baxter used the stock pan on his 1,125HP 383 Vortech blower motor.... no problems. Have seen at least one other reliable 1,000+HP 383 LT1 running the stock pan.

What did they do on the inside to control the oil? It has a real bad habit of climbing the back of the pan on slicks.
I would like to know for personal reference.
